# Understand Core, Advanced, and Direct

> Ideatura Mode; Direct concerns Revit

## Overview

Core uses the guarded Ideatura surface. Advanced enables additional Ideatura capabilities while unsafe direct APIs remain disabled. Direct allows calls to the Revit API outside those guardrails.

Choose the mode deliberately. Direct is a distinct permission decision and requires Full access for selected Revit connections in the current implementation. It is not an AI model or a thinking level.

## In Ideatura

1. Read the Mode label beside the model picker.
2. Use the least expanded mode that supports the task.
3. If the task needs Direct, inspect the warning and the connected Revit target before enabling it.

## Check the result

The mode and application access match the intended task; no permission change is assumed from a model change.
