# Apply standards

> Turn an approved example into explicit task rules.

Use a current approved example to explain the result you need, then state the rules the example cannot show clearly.

<h2 id="state-the-rule">
  1\. State the rule
</h2>

Name the units, styles, naming rules, scale and exact geometric references. State what to include and exclude. For dimensions, distinguish finish from core and clear opening from leaf width. Include the revision and scope of the source standard.

<h2 id="choose-where-it-belongs">
  2\. Choose where it belongs
</h2>

Use Guidelines for concise standing conventions and a Skill for a specialist procedure. See [Guidelines and skills](/automation/knowledge). Instructions are not an enforced permission boundary and do not establish automatic learning from past projects.

<h2 id="test-the-interpretation">
  3\. Test the interpretation
</h2>

Ask Ideatura to explain how it will apply the rule before editing. Inspect one representative result and one exception against the approved example. Describe any mismatch precisely, revise the instructions and test again before applying the rule more widely.
