# Create an automation for renumbering

> Proposed Revit example

## Overview

Define the target elements, ordering rule, starting value, prefix, and any numbers that must be retained.

Inspect an old-to-new mapping before applying changes. Check uniqueness and test a rerun so the numbering does not drift unexpectedly.

## Example request

Propose door numbers for the selected sample doors, ordered clockwise from the marked entrance, starting D-101. Show an old-to-new mapping and flag collisions before changing values.

## In Ideatura

1. Open a New Chat and provide the sample model, target and rule.
2. Ask for a short plan and resolve missing inputs.
3. Build the smallest useful version and inspect the native result.
4. Expose the varying values as parameters; save and test a second run.

## Check the result

Selection and order → mapping → applied values → uniqueness and rerun checks.
