# Understand parameters in automation chains

> Automation parameters · Revit examples

## Overview

In the inspected Revit chain flow, dynamic parameters for every step are resolved before any step runs. Those selectors see the model as it exists at the start of the chain.

A later step cannot use its initial selector to choose a view that an earlier step has not created yet. If it needs that result, the workflow needs an explicit dependency mechanism supported by the implementation, or separate runs.

## In Ideatura

1. List each step’s inputs and required model objects.
2. Check which objects already exist at chain start.
3. Resolve all required parameter selections.
4. Test the dependency order on a sample model.

## Check the result

Every step has valid inputs at the point it needs them.
