# Repair annotations

> Prepare a bounded correction after a design change.

A design change can remove or invalidate annotation references. A saved automation is not a guarantee of automatic repair or preservation of manual offsets.

<h2 id="inspect-the-change">
  1\. Inspect the change

Identify affected elements, surviving dimensions and tags, and the intended references after the change. Save a baseline and compare with the last accepted drawing where available.

<h2 id="choose-the-correction">
  2\. Choose the correction
</h2>

Decide which annotations should remain, be reattached or be recreated. Explain manual placement and styling to preserve. Test the proposed operation on one changed example; do not assume selective refresh or automatic restoration is available.

<h2 id="review-the-repaired-view">
  3\. Review the repaired view
</h2>

Check references, values, duplicates, placement and neighboring annotations. If recreation loses useful manual work, use a narrower manual correction. Record the limits before reusing the workflow. See [Review and recover](/ai/review).
