# Sheet Layout

> Create an automation to arrange existing views on sheets, from a single GA plan to a coordinated room package.

Create an automation that arranges views on your sheets—from a single GA plan centred on a sheet to a coordinated layout of plans, RCPs, elevations and sections.

This example arranges a room's plan, RCP and four elevations. You can ask for different combinations, ordering and spacing to suit your drawing set.

## 1. Define the layout

Open your project and start with one sheet. Prepare the views you want to place, including their crops and scales. This automation arranges existing views on existing sheets; creating those views and sheets can be a separate task.

Describe the composition before asking AI to build it. For example:

* **GA sheet:** one plan centred in the usable drawing area.
* **Room sheet:** one plan, one RCP and four elevations.
* **Detail sheet:** a section alongside several related construction details.

For the room example, use three rows and two columns:

| Left column | Right column |
| - | - |
| Room plan | Room RCP |
| North elevation | East elevation |
| South elevation | West elevation |

Allow space for view titles, annotations and the title block.

## 2. Create the automation

Start a new chat in Ideatura and describe the result:

> Create a sheet-layout automation for my Revit project. On each selected room sheet, arrange the existing room plan, RCP and four elevations in three rows and two columns. Use this order: plan, RCP, north, east, south, west. Match the views to the sheet using their room names or numbers, and report missing or ambiguous matches. Let me adjust the layout, margins, spacing and alignment. Include a dry run so I can check the matches before placing anything. Keep existing view scales unchanged.

Use consistent names so the automation can identify the correct views. For example, include **108 – Conference Room** in both the sheet name and its view names.

## 3. Make the layout adjustable

Ask for controls that let you reuse the automation without rewriting the request.

| Control | What it controls |
| - | - |
| **Sheets** | Which sheets to arrange. Start with one. |
| **Rows and Columns** | The layout grid: **3 × 2** for this room package. |
| **View order** | Which view belongs in each position. |
| **Margins** | Space around the drawing area, measured in sheet millimetres. |
| **Row and Column gaps** | Separation between the views. |
| **Horizontal and Vertical alignment** | How each view sits within its allocated space. |
| **Title X and Y** | Adjustments to viewport-title positions. |

In this example, **Strict room match** uses information in the sheet and view names to narrow the matches. Check the proposed views rather than relying on the setting alone.

Leave **Clear first** off while testing. Turning it on removes existing viewports from the selected sheets before rebuilding the layout; it does not delete the underlying views.

## 4. Check the matches, then place the views

Keep **Dry run** on for the first run. Review which views will go on each sheet and resolve missing or ambiguous matches.

The dry run checks the matching—it does not confirm that everything will fit.

Once the matches are correct, turn **Dry run** off and run on one sheet. Open that sheet in Revit and check:

* The correct room and views are shown.
* The reading order matches your intended layout.
* Views, titles and annotations fit without overlapping.
* The title block and reserved areas remain clear.

## 5. Refine and reuse

Describe a specific adjustment:

> Increase the gap between the elevation rows to 20 mm. Keep the view order, scales and horizontal alignment unchanged.

If a view is too large, review its crop, scale or allocated space. This example reports oversized views rather than automatically changing their scale.

The title controls apply an additional offset each time they run, so check them before repeating a placement.

Test another room with different proportions, then save the checked automation with a clear name. For a substantially different composition—such as one centred GA plan or a plan with two sections—ask AI to adapt the layout and matching rules, and test that variation separately.
