# Updates and issues

> Record versions and recover carefully when behavior changes.

A client update, a host add-in repair and a change to a saved automation are separate operations.

<h2 id="record-versions">
  1\. Record versions
</h2>

Record the Studio version, host application/version, affected automation and exact symptom. The Studio version appears at the bottom of **Settings**; open **Updates** to inspect the available update action. See [Studio updates](/studio-reference/ui-settings#studio-updates).

<h2 id="preserve-working-content">
  2\. Preserve working content
</h2>

Save the native model and a known working automation before changing a workflow. Follow the update guidance shown by Studio and save your work before any requested restart. Check the release information before expecting an update to fix a specific fault.

<h2 id="test-after-a-change">
  3\. Test after a change
</h2>

Repeat a small previously accepted case and the failing case. If the problem remains, include versions, expected/actual results and reproduction steps in [Report a problem](/studio-reference/ui-support#problem-reports). A report submission does not mean the issue is resolved; retain the case until the output is checked.
