# 3D IFC interface

> Navigate IFC models, inspect elements and record review issues.

<h2 id="navigate-ifc">
  1\. Navigate IFC
</h2>

<span id="navigate-ifc-overview" />

<span id="navigate-ifc-in-ideatura" />

<span id="navigate-ifc-check-the-result" />

An IFC output can open beside the chat as a 3D model. Use the available view controls to inspect the result from the angles relevant to the task.

A visually plausible model still needs checks for size, alignment and element information. Name the file and revision when asking for a correction.

<h2 id="project-panel">
  2\. Project panel
</h2>

<span id="project-panel-overview" />

<span id="project-panel-in-ideatura" />

<span id="project-panel-check-the-result" />

Open the IFC viewer’s **Project** panel and select the existing **3D Model** entry or an available 2D view. Check which view is active before inspecting the result.

Keep the viewer’s Project panel distinct from Studio’s Projects library. One organises the open model/view context; the other organises workspace files.

<h2 id="find-elements">
  3\. Find elements
</h2>

<span id="find-elements-overview" />

<span id="find-elements-in-ideatura" />

<span id="find-elements-check-the-result" />

Use model search in **Structure** to find a known element. **Hierarchy**, **Types** and **Annotations** offer different ways to browse the model. Select the matching result and check it in the view.

A file name, a model element and a viewer annotation are different things. Keep that distinction when selecting context for a request.

<h2 id="model-visibility">
  4\. Model visibility
</h2>

<span id="model-visibility-overview" />

<span id="model-visibility-in-ideatura" />

<span id="model-visibility-check-the-result" />

Visibility icons sit alongside entries in the model structure. Use visibility to make the area being inspected easier to understand.

Changing what is visible in a viewer is distinct from deleting geometry or editing the source model. Restore the relevant context before judging relationships.

<h2 id="element-details">
  5\. Element details
</h2>

<span id="element-details-overview" />

<span id="element-details-in-ideatura" />

<span id="element-details-check-the-result" />

The Details panel asks you to select an element. Use it alongside the 3D view to inspect the information available for the selected model object.

Check geometry and properties together. A correct-looking component can still carry incomplete or incorrect information.

<h2 id="annotate-objects">
  6\. Annotate objects
</h2>

<span id="annotate-objects-overview" />

<span id="annotate-objects-in-ideatura" />

<span id="annotate-objects-check-the-result" />

Select an object or group and open **Annotation** to add information through the available controls. Save it, then locate it again in **Structure → Annotations** to check the association.

Keep model-associated annotations distinct from pen marks drawn over a captured view. Use the right mechanism for information that needs to remain attached to a component.

<h2 id="issues-and-bcf">
  7\. Issues and BCF
</h2>

<span id="issues-and-bcf-overview" />

<span id="issues-and-bcf-in-ideatura" />

<span id="issues-and-bcf-check-the-result" />

Open Issues in the IFC interface and choose Add BCF or New BCF as appropriate. Keep the relevant model and view selected while describing the issue.

A useful issue identifies the location, the observed problem and the requested resolution. Keep the model revision clear when exchanging an issue.
