# Quick start

> Dimension a Revit plan, turn the task into an automation and run it from your library.

This example adds grid dimensions to a Revit floor plan. You will give AI a task, inspect the result and save an automation with a plan selector.

Use a project with straight, orthogonal grids and a plan that has room for dimensions around its edges. Save the project before starting.

## Create a chat and connect Revit

Open the project and floor plan in Revit. In Studio, click the pencil icon to create a new chat. Open **Connected Apps**, select that Revit document and use **Full** access so Ideatura can add dimensions.

## Give AI the task

Send this prompt, replacing the plan name with yours:

> In the Revit floor plan \[plan name], dimension the straight, orthogonal grids in both directions. Add individual spacings and an overall dimension. Place the strings outside the grid bubbles, using the project's default dimension style. Keep existing dimensions and avoid duplicates. Work only in this view.

Ideatura can ask for a missing detail or produce an automation card to run. If a card asks for parameters, choose your plan and click **Run**.

## Look at the result

Switch to Revit and inspect the plan. Check that the dimensions refer to the intended grids and that the strings clear the bubbles. Read the chat summary for anything skipped.

If something needs adjusting, describe the correction in the same chat:

> Move the dimension strings farther outside the grid bubbles. Keep their references and style, and do not add another set of dimensions.

## Turn the task into an automation

Once the drawing looks right, send:

> Turn this task into a reusable automation. Let me choose the floor plan, dimension style and offsets before running. Keep the rule that preserves existing dimensions and avoids duplicates.

Open the generated card and check that those inputs are present. The exact form depends on what you asked AI to build.

## Save it to the library

On the automation card, choose **… → Star**. Name it **Grid dimensions**, choose a folder in **Save in**, then click **Star**.

## Run the saved automation

Open **Automations** in the sidebar and find **Grid dimensions**. Choose **Run with params**, select another suitable plan, set the offsets and click **Run**. Inspect that plan in Revit and save the project when you are happy with it.

You now have a task you can repeat with different inputs. [Automations](https://docs.ideatura.ai/v2/get-started/automations.md) explains how to edit and share it.
