# Create sheets

> Create a sheet set from your rooms, title block and drawing register, then check it before extending the work.

You can ask Ideatura to create sheets for many scenarios: one per level, one per building elevation, or one per room in a selected floor plan.

This example creates **one sheet per room**, with your chosen title block, naming convention and numbering. Creating views and placing them on sheets comes afterwards.

For a small, one-off set, ask Ideatura to do the work directly. Build an automation when you want to repeat it with different rooms or numbering rules.

## 1. Describe the sheet set

Open your project in Revit and start a new chat in Ideatura. Describe what each sheet represents and which information should determine its name:

> Create one sheet for each of the rooms in my selected floor plan. Use my existing title block. Name each sheet with the room number followed by the room name. Number them DOCS-RS-101 onwards, skipping numbers already in use. Leave existing sheets unchanged and report any room that already has a matching sheet.

Name the exact title block type if your project contains several. Start with a few rooms and identify the source plan explicitly.

## 2. Choose the inputs

For repeated work, ask Ideatura to turn the task into an automation. The example below uses four controls:

| Control | What to choose |
| - | - |
| **1 Rooms** | Select a small set of rooms. Here: Cafeteria, Common Area and Conference Room. |
| **2 Title block** | Choose an existing type from your project. This example uses **A0 metric : Ideatura\_A0**. |
| **3 Sheet prefix** | Include your separator: **DOCS-RS-**. |
| **4 Starting number** | Enter **101** to begin at **DOCS-RS-101**. |

The sheet number and room number serve different purposes. Here, room **103 – Cafeteria** becomes sheet **DOCS-RS-101**, named **Room 103 - Cafeteria**.

Ask for additional controls only when needed, such as collecting rooms from selected plans or choosing a naming format. Define how to handle rooms appearing in several views so each room is processed once.

## 3. Decide how to handle existing sheets

Think about what should happen when you run the automation again.

Explain how the automation should recognise a room that already has a sheet. Matching by sheet name is simple, but a renamed room can break that match. For repeated use, ask it to retain a room identifier in an agreed sheet parameter.

Request **Add suffix** only when you deliberately want another sheet with a similar name. If existing sheets should update when rooms are renamed, state which fields may change. Test that behaviour separately.

## 4. Test a small sheet set

Save your project and select a few rooms, then choose **Run**, marked **5** above.

Read the report, then inspect the sheets in Revit. Check:

* The expected rooms have sheets.
* Sheet names and numbers match your drawing register.
* The correct title block is used.
* Skipped rooms and existing sheets were handled as intended.

The sheets should contain their title blocks and be ready for drawings. This task does not yet create room plans, elevations or viewports.

Run the same small case again to check that it handles existing sheets as agreed without unwanted duplicates.

## 5. Refine and save

Describe a specific adjustment, for example:

> Add “Room Sheet” before each sheet name and make B the default sheet-number prefix.

Review the revised inputs and test again, checking how the new naming rule affects existing sheets.

Save a one-off result in your project. For repeated work, save the tested automation with a clear name, such as **Create room sheets**. Keep your practice's naming rules in a skill.
