# Create Views

> Build an automation to create, name and crop room plans in your Revit project.

Ask Ideatura to create views around the drawing set you need: one general arrangement plan for every level, an elevation for each side of a building, or a separate plan for every room on a selected floor.

Start with one scenario and define its scope, naming, template and crop. This example explains how to build an automation that creates **room plans** from existing Revit rooms.

## Describe the views you need

Open your project, connect the Revit document and start a new chat. Describe the result:

> Create an automation that makes a separate floor plan for every room in the source plan I choose. Include only placed rooms on the source plan’s level and phase, within its crop. Create each view on the room’s level, name it using the room number and name, and crop it around the room. Let me choose the source views, view template, naming format and crop settings before running. Include a choice to skip existing names or create a variation with a suffix.

Start with one source plan. Check the room count, level and phase before extending the run to other floors. Ask the automation to process each room only once when several source views include it.

Open the generated automation’s parameters using the control marked **1**.

## Define the controls

Ask for inputs that let you reuse the automation across projects.

| Control | What to specify |
| - | - |
| **Source views** | Choose the plans containing the rooms to process. |
| **View template** | Select a compatible template from your project, or **None**. |
| **Name style** | Number–name, name–number, number only or name only. |
| **Name prefix** | Add a consistent prefix, such as **Room Plan**. |
| **Crop** | Follow the room boundary with **Exact room**, or use **Rectangle**. |
| **Rectangle padding (m)** | Add space around a rectangular crop. This setting applies only to **Rectangle**. |
| **Duplicates** | **Skip existing** names or **Add suffix** to create another named variation. |
| **Scale (1:n)** | Enter **50** for a 1:50 drawing. Check whether your chosen template controls scale. |

The tested prefix **DOCS Room Plan** and style **Number – name** produced **DOCS Room Plan 108 - Conference Room**.

This test uses a floor-plan source. Test RCPs and exact room crops separately with compatible templates and distinct prefixes.

The controls below show **1** the source plan, **2** no template, **3** naming, **4** a rectangular crop with 0.5 m padding, **5** skipping existing names and **6** a 1:50 scale. Select **7 Run** to create the views.

## Run a small test

Choose a source plan containing a manageable number of rooms and run the automation. Read the report for created views, skipped rooms and any naming, crop or template problems.

Open the new views in Revit and check:

* Each view shows the intended room on the correct level.
* Names follow your convention.
* Crops include the drawing content you need.
* The template, scale and visibility suit the intended drawing.

Rooms need usable boundaries and an associated level. If a room is skipped, inspect its setup before repeating the run.

This run created **33 room plans** on level 01. Repeating it skipped all 33 existing names and created no duplicates. The conference-room plan below was opened and checked in Revit.

## Refine the result

Explain the specific change you need. For example:

> Use rectangular crops with 0.5 m padding so the plans include more surrounding context. Keep the room-number naming format and the selected view template.

Be clear whether you want to **update the views already created** or create new variations. In this example, **Skip existing** checks view names; it does not update existing views. **Add suffix** creates additional views.

If you need other behavior—such as updating crops on previously created room plans—ask to add it and test that change separately.

## Save and reuse

Once the result is correct, save the automation with a clear name and folder using **… → Star**. Save the Revit project separately.

You can then build related automations for GA plans by level, building elevations or other view sets. Give each one its own scope and rules. The room-plan example creates views; placing them on sheets is a separate step.
