# Edit existing models

> Resize one Revit door using a separate type, then inspect dimensions and clearance.

## 1. Identify the baseline

Choose one element and record what should change and what must stay. This example widens wall-hosted door **134-A** in a disposable Revit project. Its original type measures **800 × 2000 mm**, with a **900 × 2050 mm** rough opening. Studio’s inspection reported 104 doors sharing that type.

Locate the door in the plan before editing. Include its host, position, swing and nearby walls in the review, not just its width.

## 2. Prepare a separate type

Changing a shared type can affect every instance. In this attempt, Core could not duplicate the door type and made no change. Preparation was completed manually in Revit: select door **134-A**, choose **Edit Type → Duplicate**, enter **DOCS\_Single\_1000x2000**, then click **OK → OK**.

Only the selected door was assigned the duplicate. Its width remained **800 mm** at this point; the new name described the intended size, not a completed resize.

## 3. Request and check the edit

Ask to set the duplicate type’s width to **1000 mm**, keeping the **2000 mm** height, host, level, position and swing. Specify that the other doors must remain unchanged.

Studio reported one instance of the new type, door **134-A**, and 103 doors still using the original **800 × 2000 mm** type. It reported that only the new type’s Width changed, with the host and Level 01 retained and no move or flip.

## 4. Inspect the change

Native Revit **Type Properties** confirmed **Width 1000 mm**, **Height 2000 mm**, **Rough Width 1100 mm** and **Rough Height 2050 mm**. The matching plan detail shows the wider swing and the hinge jamb meeting the perpendicular return wall.

The clearance remains unresolved. Review the opening, swing, wall junction and affected annotations before accepting the change; the resized door is not a construction-ready result. This example was not saved or synchronized.

Keep edits narrow in other applications too, and compare dimensions and relationships before and after.
