# Revit

> Dimension a Revit plan, turn the task into an automation and run it from your library.

This example adds grid dimensions to a Revit floor plan. You will give AI a task, inspect the result and save an automation with a plan selector. [Install Studio and sign in](https://docs.ideatura.ai/v2/essentials/installation.md) before starting.

Use a project with straight, orthogonal grids and a plan that has room for dimensions around its edges. Save the project before starting.

## Connect Revit

After your first sign-in, Studio opens an empty **New Conversation**. If you already have a conversation open, click the pencil button at the top right to start a new one.

![Complete Studio window with an empty conversation and No apps selected above the message box.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura/wAMHb3mEOTJ5C3fT/images/v2/studio-first-conversation.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=wAMHb3mEOTJ5C3fT\&q=85\&s=1c1ca82ee7c85c8487beb5e1f8bb974e)

Start in the empty conversation. Connected Apps is beside the model picker above the message box.

Open the project and floor plan in Revit. In Studio, open **Connected Apps**, select that Revit document and use **Full** access so Ideatura can add dimensions.

## Send first prompt

Send this prompt, replacing the plan name with yours:

> In the Revit floor plan \[plan name], dimension the straight, orthogonal grids in both directions. Add individual spacings and an overall dimension. Place the strings outside the grid bubbles, using the project's default dimension style. Keep existing dimensions and avoid duplicates. Work only in this view.

Click **Send** at the bottom right of the message box.

![A grid-dimension request in the message box, with Send at the bottom right.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura/dSttlN_rWnos9Rim/images/revit/grid-dimensions-request.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dSttlN_rWnos9Rim\&q=85\&s=424e9dc3d69f1ceb84022c1bd63e9d32)

Type your request in the message box, then click Send. This example asks for grid dimensions along one side of a plan.

Ideatura can ask for a missing detail or produce an automation card to run. If a card asks for parameters, choose your plan and click **Run**.

## Look at the result

Switch to Revit and inspect the plan. Check that the dimensions refer to the intended grids and that the strings clear the bubbles. Read the chat summary for anything skipped.

![Example Revit result with individual grid spacings and an overall dimension outside the grid bubbles.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura/3S2nsAvqf-g_0kOO/images/grid-build/result.svg?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3S2nsAvqf-g_0kOO\&q=85\&s=dbb413980d8693d6f65de30066048880)

If something needs adjusting, describe the correction in the same chat:

> Move the dimension strings farther outside the grid bubbles. Keep their references and style, and do not add another set of dimensions.

## Save work as a reusable automation

Once the drawing looks right, send:

> Turn this task into a reusable automation. Let me choose the floor plan, dimension style and offsets before running. Keep the rule that preserves existing dimensions and avoids duplicates.

Open the generated card and check that those inputs are present. The exact form depends on what you asked AI to build.

## Save automation to shared library

On the automation card, choose **… → Star**.

Name it **Grid dimensions**, choose a folder in **Save in**, then click **Star**. This saves it in the current workspace's library, where people with access to that workspace can find it.

![Star dialog with an automation name, library destination and Star button.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura/MJ3FvHQFVwvFuYO5/images/v2/save-automation.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=MJ3FvHQFVwvFuYO5\&q=85\&s=2346f68920c89eb993650e7957d520a2)

## Run the saved automation

Open **Automations** in the sidebar and find **Grid dimensions**. Open its **…** menu and choose **Run with params**.

![Saved automation menu with Run with params below Open in new chat.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura/MJ3FvHQFVwvFuYO5/images/v2/library-menu.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=MJ3FvHQFVwvFuYO5\&q=85\&s=57d754d22e8e8ce3e40973ff55eb7373)

Select another suitable plan and set the dimension style, sides and offsets. Your form may differ depending on the inputs you requested.

![Grid-dimension parameters with a floor-plan selector, offsets, sides and dimension style.](https://mintcdn.com/ideatura/MJ3FvHQFVwvFuYO5/images/v2/automation-inputs.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=MJ3FvHQFVwvFuYO5\&q=85\&s=7f5c98c73d71d865abe3d18e9ecb8eb7)

Click **Run** at the bottom of the form. Inspect that plan in Revit and save the project when you are happy with it.

You now have a task you can repeat with different inputs. [Automations](https://docs.ideatura.ai/v2/essentials/automations.md) explains how to edit and share it.
