Choose controls

Overview Choose a control to match the input: a number field or slider for quantities, a text field for names, a checkbox for on/off behavior, a selector for choices or a file input for an attachment. Choose a parameter for a decision that should vary between runs. Model-specific views, sheets, levels and types can be presented as choices populated from the current document. In Ideatura
  1. List the decisions that vary between runs.
  2. Choose the matching value type.
  3. Define labels, defaults, bounds or options.
  4. Test the resulting form on a small task.
Check the result Every input has a clear purpose and a suitable control.

Single choice

Overview Use a single-choice parameter when exactly one alternative should apply, such as a dimension style or grid source. Open the dropdown, search the available options and select one. Check the selected label before running. In Ideatura
  1. Open the selector.
  2. Search or inspect its available options.
  3. Choose one value.
  4. Check whether the field is required and whether it can be cleared.
Check the result Exactly one intended value is passed to the automation.

Multiple choices

Overview A multi-choice parameter selects a set of values. In Auto Dimensions, Floor plans selects target views; Per-grid sides and Overall sides select among top, bottom, left and right. Check the selected summary before running, especially after filtering options or changing documents. In Ideatura
  1. Open the multi-selector.
  2. Find and select the intended values.
  3. Check the complete selected set.
  4. Clear accidental selections and satisfy required fields.
Check the result Only the intended views or sides are included.

Checkboxes

Overview A boolean parameter has an on/off value. Auto Dimensions uses separate checkboxes for Per-grid dims, Overall dims and Move dimension numbers. Unchecked is a valid false value, not a missing answer. If a task needs Yes, No and Any, use a three-option single-choice parameter rather than a checkbox. In Ideatura
  1. Read the behavior named by the checkbox.
  2. Set each toggle independently.
  3. Confirm what unchecked means for this automation.
  4. Inspect the result for the enabled behaviors.
Check the result The requested behaviors run and disabled behaviors do not.

Numeric inputs

Overview Integer parameters accept whole numbers; float parameters accept decimals. Read the allowed range and step, then use the slider or numeric field offered by the form. Read the unit beside each field. For Auto Dimensions, set the per-grid and overall offsets in millimetres to suit the drawing. In Ideatura
  1. Read the label, unit and allowed range.
  2. Use the slider for adjustment or type an exact value.
  3. Check the accepted value.
  4. Inspect the resulting native offset or quantity.
Check the result The submitted number has the intended precision, unit and effect.

Text inputs

Overview String parameters accept text. Use them for a sheet-name prefix, a naming pattern or a type-name filter when the automation is designed to interpret that input. Read whether the field expects literal text, a pattern or a special format. Fill required text fields and check what leaving an optional field blank means for the automation. In Ideatura
  1. Read the expected text format.
  2. Enter a small representative value.
  3. Check any naming or filter rules.
  4. Inspect the generated names or selected scope.
Check the result Text is interpreted as intended and does not produce unexpected names or matches.

File inputs

Overview An attachment parameter gives the automation an explicit file input, such as a CSV sheet register. It can specify allowed extensions and a maximum file size. Studio exposes Choose file or Replace file and reports unsupported types, oversized files or a read failure. This parameter belongs to the automation form and is separate from attaching a general reference to a chat. In Ideatura
  1. Read the accepted file types and size limit.
  2. Choose the intended file.
  3. Check its identity and any validation message.
  4. Run only after the file has loaded successfully.
Check the result The automation receives the intended file in an accepted format.

Required fields

Overview Required fields are marked with an asterisk. For text, single choice, multi-choice and attachment parameters, a required field must contain a valid answer. A prefilled value and required status are separate concepts. If Run is disabled, check for missing required selections such as Floor plans. Numeric fields also need valid values; an unchecked checkbox is a valid off value. In Ideatura
  1. Find each required field.
  2. Supply missing selections, text or files.
  3. Correct invalid numeric values.
  4. Wait for parameter loading to finish and recheck Run.
Check the result The form is complete and valid before execution.

Model choices

Overview Dynamic parameters populate choices or ranges from the currently open model. Common choices include views, sheets, levels, rooms and family types. A fixed list such as top/bottom/left/right is different from a document-derived list of floor plans. Check that selected objects still exist when you run the automation. Refresh the choices after changing documents or editing the model. In Ideatura
  1. Select the intended Revit document.
  2. Open the automation’s parameters.
  3. Choose objects from that document.
  4. Refresh and recheck selections if the model changes.
Check the result Selections refer to the correct current model objects.

Refresh and run

Overview Use the circular-arrow action to refresh document-derived choices after the model changes. Recheck the selected values after refreshing. Use Resave to save a reusable configuration and check its title and destination. Run starts work with the selected values; Cancel closes setup without starting that run. In Ideatura
  1. Refresh choices if the model changed.
  2. Review every selected value.
  3. Use Resave when creating a reusable preset and inspect its title/destination.
  4. Use Run for execution, then inspect the native result.
Check the result You distinguish refreshing choices, saving a preset and executing work.

Chain parameters

Overview Select model objects that exist before the chain starts. Check each step’s inputs before running the chain. An initial selector cannot choose a view that an earlier step has not created yet. Run the creation step first, then select its result for the next run. In Ideatura
  1. List each step’s inputs and required model objects.
  2. Check which objects already exist at chain start.
  3. Resolve all required parameter selections.
  4. Test the dependency order on a sample model.
Check the result Every step has valid inputs at the point it needs them.
