Watch the floor-plan reconstruction in the video, then follow the separate room example below. It uses a dimensioned DWG and a new Revit project, with the source drawing preserved.

1. Open the source drawing

Download the sample DWG and open it in AutoCAD. This synthetic sample uses millimetres: a 6000 × 4000 mm outer footprint, 200 mm walls, a centered south door and a north window. Read the dimensions and notes before modelling. AutoCAD sample drawing showing the 6000 by 4000 millimetre room, openings, dimensions and construction notes.

2. Connect both applications

In Studio, choose Direct mode. Open Connected Apps, select both AutoCAD and Revit, and confirm their document names. This workflow requires Full access for both; AutoCAD’s Read setting did not permit the Direct-mode read in this test. Studio connections with AutoCAD and Revit selected for the Direct-mode workflow. Tell Studio to preserve the source DWG and existing Revit projects and create a new disposable metric project. This is a scope instruction, not an enforced read-only restriction. Use the open AutoCAD drawing as the source; attaching the binary DWG to the conversation was rejected in this attempt.

3. Define the native reconstruction

Ask Studio to read the drawing’s vectors, dimensions and notes, then build native Revit walls, a floor and hosted openings. Preserve the southwest outside corner at 0,0, with Level 0 at zero elevation and no rotation or scaling. The run created four native walls, one hosted door, one hosted window and one floor, without a CAD import standing in for the model. The source DWG remained unchanged.

4. Compare the model with the DWG

Inspect the plan for wall alignment, opening positions and door handing. The native result has the centered north window and south door with its west hinge and inward swing. Measured checks confirmed the 6000 × 4000 mm outside dimensions and 5600 × 3600 mm clear interior. Native Revit plan showing the rectangular room, centered north window and inward-opening south door with its hinge to the west. Check heights, sill level and actual wall cuts in 3D. The measured door cut was 900 × 2100 mm and the window cut 1200 × 1200 mm, with a 900 mm sill. All 12 geometric checks passed and Revit reported no warnings. Native Revit room model with four walls, hosted door and window, and a floor below Level 0; no roof. The standard Doors_IntSgl family differs from the schematic DWG symbol: its framed leaf has an 816 mm swing radius, with the hinge 42 mm inside the nominal jamb. The wall opening is the specified 900 mm wide. Check family detailing rather than expecting an exact trace of the symbol. The new project was saved as DOCS-studio-room-native-disposable.rvt; reopening it was not tested. Review the selected families and construction details before using the model in a live project.

5. Earlier demonstration

The video’s first pass needed corrections to missing walls, facade-support orientation and curtain-door placement. Those observations belong to that larger example; inspect each new reconstruction against its own source. Watch the original demonstration on LinkedIn
