1. Open your scan
Open your point cloud or mesh in Ideatura. Supported inputs include XYZ, PLY and PCD point clouds, and OBJ meshes, such as a Matterport MatterPak export. Keep an OBJ’s material and texture files with it. Check that the scan appears at the expected scale and orientation. Use a known measurement, such as a surveyed room width, to confirm the scale.2. Describe what you want to recreate
Tell AI which area to work on, which elements to create and what the model will be used for. For an existing-building study, you might begin with walls, floors and openings, leaving furniture and finishes for later. For example:Reconstruct this room as an IFC model using the scan as the reference. Start with the walls, floor, door and window openings. Keep the model aligned with the scan and use metres. Leave furniture out. Identify any dimensions or hidden areas that you cannot establish from the source.Add any survey information you already have. A measured ceiling height, wall thickness or floor level can help resolve information that the scan does not show.
3. Build a small area first
Ask AI to inspect the area from several directions before creating the geometry. Plan views help establish the layout; vertical views help check heights and openings. The source matters: a mesh contains surfaces, while a point cloud contains individual points. AI needs to inspect the available information rather than assume that every surface or opening is complete.Start with the entrance room only. Inspect its layout and heights, then create the geometry supported by the scan. Keep uncertain areas separate for review.A scan may show only one face of a wall. Ask AI to flag an assumed thickness rather than present it as a measurement.
4. Compare and correct
Compare the model with the scan from the same viewpoint. Check wall positions, room dimensions, floor and ceiling heights, and the size and position of openings. Describe corrections precisely:The wall beside the entrance is angled in the scan. Adjust that wall to follow the surveyed alignment. Keep the other walls and openings unchanged.Keep the scan in place as the reference while correcting the model. Check whether a gap is a real opening or simply missing scan data before asking AI to fill or model it.
5. Extend the model and export
Once the first area is satisfactory, continue room by room or floor by floor. Ask AI to reuse the agreed modelling rules and check connections between areas.Continue with the adjoining rooms using the same approach. Check shared walls and floor levels, and list any areas that still need survey information.Export the model to IFC and inspect it in the application where you will use it. Check geometry, element categories and the information required for your next task. If you bring it into Revit, verify how the IFC elements are represented and what further editing is needed.
